Submissions

Submission Guidelines

Improvisation.ca is committed to creating a dialogue about improvisation in Canada, and as such, we are always looking for new writers and videographers for all of our sections. Currently, improvisation.ca is interested in writing on the following topics:

  • Profiles of Canadian improv groups, companies and individual improvisers
  • Essays on topics in improvisation in Canada
  • Well shot and edited video of a documentary nature which profiles improvisers and/or illuminates topics in improvisation
  • Reviews of improv shows, festivals, workshops and the like

We are currently not interested in footage of you or your group improvising. If you’re interested in creating and sharing improvised monologues, we’d love to suggest submitting to the Improv Monologue Project.

Submissions should be of a length reasonable to the internet (200-2000 words, or 10 minutes of footage or less). It is a good idea to submit a written query describing your intended piece to Editor-In-Chief Kaitlin Fontana, via email at editor[at]improvisation[dot]ca. Please note that editing of pieces for length, style and grammar is at the full discretion of improvisation.ca’s editorial staff.

We are also always looking for fresh ways to profile the Canadian improv scene. If you have a great idea for a new section or format, please contact us.

If you have questions about accepted video formats, please contact us.

Payment

Contributors whose work is posted to improvisation.ca, whether written or video, will be granted a one time payment of $50. This is paid when the piece goes live, and only upon receipt of invoice from the payee.
